We are delighted to announce that internationally renowned and award-winning photographer Brent Stirton, known for his deeply moving work on humanitarian crises, environmental disasters, and devastating diseases, has created an extraordinary photo series in Austria about ME/CFS patients. Stirton, whose impressive images are regularly featured in National Geographic and Time Magazine, portrayed ten people suffering from ME/CFS in August 2024.
With his unparalleled eye for human destinies, he has captured the profound challenges and quiet tragedy that shape the lives of those affected in moving images. His photographs impressively show how this little-researched disease dominates the lives of sufferers and their families. Each photograph not only tells the story of individual suffering, but also gives a voice to those affected, who often live in isolation, a voice that needs to be heard. Stirtons series helps to raise awareness of ME/CFS and bring the invisible suffering of many people into the public eye.
Five of these deeply moving photographs will be presented to the public for the first time from November 7 to 11, 2024, as part of Art & Antique at the Hofburg Palace in Vienna—a special highlight that will deeply move visitors.
On November 10 at 3 p.m., the charity campaign “KUNSTHÄNDLER*INNEN HELFEN” (ART DEALERS HELP) will also take place in aid of the WE & ME Foundation. As part of this initiative, five high-quality works of art donated by leading galleries will be raffled off. With a ticket costing just €20, you not only have the chance to win a masterpiece, but also actively contribute to supporting people with ME/CFS.
