Care4PAIS&ME/CFS

This study, funded by the WE&ME Foundation and conducted by the Medical University of Vienna, Department of Primary Care Medicine (Prof. Kathryn Hoffmann, MPH, and Golda Schlaff, MD), in collaboration with the University of Vienna, Institute of Mathematics (Prof. Joachim Hermisson, MD), and the Austrian Society for ME/CFS (represented by Sandra Leiss, MA), is groundbreaking for understanding and improving the medical pathways of patients suffering from post-acute infection syndromes (PAIS), such as ME/CFS or post-COVID. Using an advanced, patient-centered online questionnaire, the study examines in great depth and precision the spectrum of specific PAIS syndromes, such as… For example, post-exertion malaise, autonomic dysfunction, mast cell overactivity, or cognitive dysfunction (instead of single, random symptoms typically collected in other PAIS and long-COVID studies) will be assessed to compare these findings with the described symptoms, diagnostic findings, and treatment attempts. Furthermore, the study aims to evaluate these syndromes and symptoms in relation to the Canadian Consensus Criteria (CCC) for ME/CFS. This research is crucial for advancing a deeper understanding and developing effective diagnostic pathways and interventions directly tailored to the specific syndromes and symptoms of PAIS and ME/CFS patients.

Together, we are on the path to a better life for ME/CFS patients.

Unfortunately, this takes time and does not happen overnight. ME/CFS patients do not simply wake up one day and return to their normal lives.

But there is hope, and we are here to fight for those who can no longer do so themselves. By funding more research and raising awareness, we will achieve our goal.

Step by step.
