Joint promotion of ME/CFS research in Innsbruck

Together with the Tyrolean Science Fund, the We & Me Foundation is supporting the important study by Dr. Katharina Kurz at the Medical University of Innsbruck. With a targeted donation of €70,000, our foundation is making a significant contribution to research into metabolic changes in the blood and urine of patients with post-infectious conditions such as post-COVID syndrome and ME/CFS.

The study builds on findings regarding changes in amino acid metabolism and the role of immune activation in patients with chronic diseases. Metabolome, immunotranscriptome, proteome, peptidome, and microbiome analyses are planned as part of the research project. The aim of the study is to find out whether these tests can detect several different disease mechanisms simultaneously in a blood or urine sample.

Furthermore, research will be conducted to determine whether patients with different symptoms differ from one another in terms of their biochemical profiles. Based on the results of these individually different “biochemical profiles,” personalized therapy approaches for affected patients will be investigated.

Together, we are on the path to a better life for ME/CFS patients.

Unfortunately, this takes time and does not happen overnight. ME/CFS patients do not simply wake up one day and return to their normal lives.

But there is hope, and we are here to fight for those who can no longer do so themselves. By funding more research and raising awareness, we will achieve our goal.

Step by step.
