Photo exhibition by Brent Stirton at the La Gacilly-Baden Photo 2025 festival
From From June 13 to October 12, 2025, the renowned La Gacilly-Baden Photo Festival will take place in Baden near Vienna—Europe’s largest outdoor photo festival with over 300,000 visitors annually. Under this year’s theme, “Australia & the New World,” impressive series of images by leading international photographers will once again be presented in public spaces along a seven-kilometer exhibition route.
A special highlight: award-winning photographer Brent Stirton, in cooperation with our foundation, presents a moving series about people suffering from ME/CFS. Stirton, known for his in-depth reports in National Geographic, TIME, and Stern, portrayed ten people affected by the issue in Austria in the summer of 2024. With great visual clarity, empathy, and expressiveness, his photographs give a face to the often invisible struggles of those affected by ME/CFS.
The exhibition aims not only to attract attention, but also to trigger a change in social attitudes. ME/CFS is a serious illness that often confines sufferers to their beds for years or decades—yet it has been largely ignored by researchers, politicians, and the public.
With this work, Brent Stirton makes the invisible visible—and gives a voice to people who are all too often overlooked.
